At Churchill, I found the right environment for me, both academically and socially.

Before Churchill, I attended a school with small classes, but it felt overwhelming

because the teachers didn’t personalize things. Teachers would move through

lessons quickly, leaving little room for real understanding. They encouraged self-advocacy but never explained how to do it. At Churchill, things are different. The teachers are always approachable, whether during class or after school. They take the time to answer questions, offer advice, and genuinely care about each student’s success. This level of support has made all the difference.

Churchill’s Writing Lab has been really useful for me, especially when it came to

writing my college essay. The focused environment helped me develop my skills and see my writing in a new light. In my History Honors class, my teacher noticed that I did well in class but struggled with homework. She encouraged me to stay after class, providing a space to improve.

Looking back, I see how much I’ve grown at Churchill. I’ve developed a deep

understanding of how I learn best and have become more self-reliant.

At Churchill, my teachers know how to make learning easier for me.

I use fidgets to help me stay focused, and we have different kinds of

furniture that help me move around in the classroom. This is really

important for me because I have ADHD, and being able to move

around helps me pay attention better.

Every day at Churchill, I feel really happy because the teachers here are fun and help us with everything we need. Two of my favorite things at Churchill are the after-school program and the art program. I also joined some awesome clubs this year. There’s the video club where I made my own movie, the comic club where I created a comic book, and the Roblox club. Joining these clubs has helped me make new friends and feel like I really belong here.

My old school was very different. The teachers didn’t understand what I needed. But at Churchill, the teachers and students are much nicer. They have everything I need to learn and grow. In my old school, I was reading at a first-grade level and now I’m reading at a fourth-grade level. So I jumped three levels, and now I like to read a lot.

Churchill is a very friendly school, and the teachers know how to help you learn best.

Before I came to Churchill, school was a constant source of anxiety for

me and I found it hard to fit in. I hated being called on in class, reading

out loud, and I had a lot of difficulty doing work independently. Public

school felt overwhelming and isolating. But since coming to Churchill,

so much has changed.

What I love most about Churchill is the sense of community and belonging here. I think a big component of feeling comfortable here is knowing that all of my friends can relate to what I’m feeling. My teachers are also mentors who genuinely care about how I’m doing, both in the classroom and socially.

I’ve also had the chance to get involved in the student council as a

representative where I can make a real impact on the student experience and connect with new people. Being active in the school community has helped me become more outgoing and develop different social perspectives.

Churchill provides various support services that are crucial for my success.

Test accommodations and a reader make a big difference, and teachers even

record audio versions of test questions to help me out. The HHR program has been a lifeline, giving me time to unpack whatever stress I feel during the school day. Affinity groups are also a great resource.

If my parents or teachers were to describe my growth at Churchill, they’d probably mention how outgoing and curious I’ve become. I’ve developed a real passion for math, thanks to teachers who care about me and my future. They encouraged me to explore college programs like Landmark, where I’ll

be taking a math class this fall. Churchill embraces who you are and celebrates what you want to do.

Churchill makes me feel confident and strong. My future? I feel like I can handle it.

Before I came to Churchill, the teachers I had couldn’t help me the way I needed. I think if I had stayed much longer, I wouldn’t be able to read as smoothly or at all. I was starting to get a bit down about that, and I really kept mostly to myself. Then, I heard about Churchill and I tried it out. It’s been amazing.

Churchill is like no other school. Everyone really supports you. Like the help I got in English – I was horrible at spelling. Now, I can spell ‘turbulence’! The teachers are amazing. Even if you do something wrong, they’re calm and give you chances to get things right. In decoding, I feel like I could spell out any word that they give me now. And in math, I usually don’t need a teacher to help me anymore because I’ve got it.

I’m a part of the student council, and I just really love it. I’ve also been in clubs like Minecraft, Gaga, recess games, Roblox, and a whole lot of other different kinds of things. In recess games, I didn’t think I’d be that good at tennis, but then I rocked it!

I feel like I’ve gotten kinder. I feel like I’m much more free.
